Presentation Title
Delivering the Hudson Tunnel Project:
An Update on Hudson River Ground Stabilization and Construction in New York and New Jersey
Summary
In this presentation, Gateway Development Commission (GDC) Chief Technical Officer Hamed Nejad will provide the latest technical updates on the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP), the largest and most urgent rail infrastructure project in America. Early work launched on the HTP in November 2023 and is rapidly advancing, with heavy construction well under way on the Hudson River Ground Stabilization (HRGS) Project. Mr. Nejad will discuss geotechnical aspects of the ground modification work to prepare the riverbed for tunnel boring and share recent developments on the HTP’s other active and upcoming construction projects, including the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing – Section 3 (HYCC-3) in Manhattan, the Tonnelle Avenue Bridge Project in North Bergen, and the Palisades Tunnel Project – the HTP’s first tunnel boring contract. Attendees will gain insight into the challenges associated with delivering a major infrastructure project in a dense urban setting, how GDC is managing and anticipating risk, and the engineering methods in use on this generational investment in our region.
