Scour Evaluation Method for New Jersey Bridges
Presented by: John Schuring, Ph.D., PE Senior Technical Adviser, HNTB Corporation
The Scour Evaluation Model (SEM) is a risk-based scour analysis procedure that is now approved by NJDOT and FHWA for use on New Jersey’s existing, non-tidal bridges. The model functions like an expert-system by evaluating key geotechnical, hydrologic, and hydraulic factors, as well as a bridge’s past performance and longevity. This presentation will discuss the motivation, methodology, and output of the SEM method.
